Admittedly, I haven't met or evaluated every single piano teacher in the world, but Mr. Hoffman has a series of insanely awesome online piano tutorials that are available completely free! The lessons make piano seem fun and easy by starting with a song (Hot Cross Buns) in the first lesson and slowly increasing in difficulty as they go. There are 15 units (so far) with 285 videos, plus a bunch of popular music tutorials.
Having had a bit of musical education in the past myself, his approach seems like a great way to keep kids engaged and learning quickly. For example, to teach the names of the different keys, he has an entire story of animals and people living in their houses (which are the black keys). It's a great story in and of itself, plus the story makes it far easier to memorize the letter names of the notes!
He also adds a lot of flair to his videos. In many of the popular music tutorials he dresses up and acts like the lead character. At the end of every single video he does a brief and typically hilarious finger puppet show. How appropriate is that for a piano teacher? When my kids complete their lesson for the day, they always call over their siblings by yelling, "it's time for the funny part!"
